I still remember that day like it was yesterday. An ad in our local newspaper-"Petite, black
female cocker spaniel-$25.00.I had one male cocker spaniel at the time and he was the love
of my life. I thought he needed a buddy so off I went to check out the ad thinking all people
adored their animals like I did.

I stopped dead in my tracks the moment I saw her. A tiny, shivering cocker spaniel in the backyard
with a dog house. No water or toys and it was clear she was terrified of her owners. I could also
tell from a distance something was very wrong with one of her eyes. Choking back tears and
in complete shock, I told the family I would take her. With a surprised look on their faces, they
took my check and turned around without as much as a good-bye and walked right back into
the house.

My vet was about fifteen minutes away and by the time I arrived there, I was sobbing. I looked
at my vet and said "This dog will change my life." An examination revealed one of her ears
and one of her eyes were severely damaged. She was blind in one eye and the damage on
one side of her face was from, as the vet described it, an apparent blow to one side of her face.

Ladybug, you opened Mommy's eyes to the world of animal abuse. After almost 17 years
in rescue work, I hope you know how many wonderful animals that you are responsible
for saving. Mommy still has rescue work left here to do on earth but I will rejoice the day
we are reunited in heaven for eternity. Remember, Lady, the last words Mommy spoke to you-
Lady, I love you and you better be the first one to greet Mommy when she arrives in heaven.

My precious Lady. I love you more and more as each day goes by.
Wait for Mommy, Angel.
