Marni

Submitted by: Kathy

Story: Marni was a World Trade Center dog who was rescued by the NYSPCA on September 14, 2001. The apt where she lived was very close to the World Trade Center and was badly damaged. Her owners had her for 8 years and after being contacted in their home sadly did not want her back. They had a three year old daughter who would hurt Marni. Because she was such a love and so very good she survived a year in a shelter in NYC and then she was taken to upstate NY. A kind woman who takes in only large dogs who are basically un adoptable from the shelters felt sorry for her and took her in. After watching a local TV show that features shelter dogs we decided to adopt. When we went to see Marni who was living in poor conditions with this woman and I instantly fell in love with her and her with me. Bill was reluctant because he could see she was not comfortable but I insisted we take her. After a few days we realized she was in a lot of pain and had a neck problem. We took her to a vet and then a specialist who did a very costly micro surgery on her.  Her pain ended and her quality of life returned. Well worth the money. She was in excellent health after that and lived 5 quality loving years with us. She was a sweetheart and wrapped herself around our hearts immediately. She was the queen of our home and we loved her dearly. In July of 2006 she had to be put to sleep because of old age problems. It was the hardest thing we had to do. It was because of Marni that I had to have Cocker Spaniels in my life. One month later my wonderful life began with Cocker Pals and the adoption of my four loves.
