CARA's Little Star

George

Submitted by: Marilyn Tomlin

Story: This star is for George...my first cocker. I found him wandering the streets in 1985. After a thorough search we never found an owner so I adopted him. He was about 10 months old.  He was soft, cute, and adorable, and a little rapscallion of a dog. He could open a closet or cupboard...I wound up childproofing all my closets because he would routinely open them and attempt to pull out shoes to eat. One afternoon he ate a good portion of a plum colored leather jacket! George was a thinker...he always seemed to be looking for the next bit of mischief to get into. But he was also the most lovable and affectionate little boy.

He left me too soon...in 1993 he developed AIHA and died within a few days. But he was the first cocker spaniel I ever had and I fell in love with the breed. Since 1985 I have always had at least one cocker in the house. My current buff girl Shelby is similar to George in her scampishness…my older parti girl Glory just tattles on her! But it was George who opened the door to my heart for this wonderful breed.

Rest in peace, little George. I will never forget you!
