Update on Danny: May 9, 2006

Dear CARA,

I am Danny Boy's foster mom. I felt compelled to reach out to you and thank you for helping save Danny's life. He's such an amazing special dog and is loved by everyone (humans and dog). Everyday he has been getting stronger and healthier. Our beautiful boy has come so far. He can now run for hours at a time, climb stairs, play fetch and tug of war. Most of all now though he can play with his doggy friends . Thanks to the surgery and everyone's help he has become a beautiful, loving, confident cocker - the dream dog of any family. I wish I could personally thank every person for every dollar they gave to him, because they have helped save a true jem.

Update on Danny: March 23, 2006

Dear CARA,

Danny is recovering nicely and has really been lucky as he is going to a foster home in Manhattan with a lovely lady where he will be the only dog and she has already set him up with his very own dog walker.  She lives in a very dog friendly building and next door to a lady that has an older cocker that Danny can walk with if he wishes.  Miracles do happen as I prayed that the right home would come along for him that would be perfect for him.  This lady has already ordered an Orthopedic bed for him and wants to make sure he has everything for a total recovery.  Please pass along that Danny again is so very grateful for all the help that he has recieved and will always know he has many guardian angels that have been watching over him.

Thanks again

Treena

A special thank you note from Danny

Dear CARA and all Cocker Lovers who CARA mobilized to help me:

I have asked my new friend Dolores of Abandoned Angels to help me express my gratitude to CARA and everyone who donated prizes and participated in the raffle that CARA organized to help fund my recent surgery. Dolores has helped me write this letter describing the Four Miracles that have recently transformed my life and CARA's role in helping these Miracles to come about.

As you all know, I have been through a very traumatic time, having been hit by a car and left in the street to die. When that car hit me, my whole life flashed before my eyes! Much to my surprise, I survived the impact, and even though the driver did not stop, a kind passerby took me to Animal Control (this was my First Miracle). Unfortunately, my injuries were so extensive that Animal Control could not help me, and I lay there for several days in terrible pain with an injured hip and fractured pelvis. I was sure that my luck had run out and that I would either die a slow, agonizing death or be put out of my misery through euthanasia. Then a Second Miracle happened. As I was lying in my cage in pain, Abandoned Angels agreed to rescue me sight unseen.  I was then transported to a Vet Clinic in Queens.

Treena, a dear friend of Abandoned Angels immediately started telling everyone she could think of about my plight, including CARA. And then a Third Miracle happened! Cara came up immediately with a grant for my surgery and organized a raffle with some wonderful Cocker Spaniel Rescue Organizations and friends to raise even more money to help pay my medical bills. These funds along with some donations, will pay for a lot of my medical costs, and Abandoned Angels will find a way to fund the rest. I never knew that such kind people existed before this experience. Perhaps all my suffering has all been a blessing in disguise, because now I am on my way to a new and better life, as these photos will show.

The first photo I asked Dolores to take is one of me thanking my Lucky Stars for CARA, and all the wonderful people that played a vital role in raising money for my surgery. In the second and third photos, you can see me getting stronger. I am finally able to put some weight on my injured leg and am even beginning to walk a little bit.

Believe it or not, even after my surgery, a Fourth Miracle happened! I found a new friend named Rita, who read about me on the Internet and contacted Dolores. Rita has offered to pay for Swim Therapy for me at The Dog Run in Manhattan to help with my rehabilitation. I recently met Rita and she told me all about Swim Therapy and how much it helped her sheltie during his recovery from an injury similar to mine. I have never been swimming before, but it sure sounds like fun! After all, a Cocker Spaniel is a water fowl dog, so it should be right up my alley! Rita may be able to take me to Swim Therapy and work with me, but there is one problem ... and now I am hoping for a Fifth Miracle. I am currently recovering from surgery at AAA Veterinary Clinic in Woodside, Queens, and once I leave AAA, the plan is for me to continue recovering at an Abandoned Angels foster home, in Flushing. Transportation is a problem and, anyway, it would be physically too hard on me to make the trip to Manhattan twice a week to swim. So now I am looking for a foster home in Manhattan, ideally in Chelsea, near The Dog Run on Ninth Avenue, between 18th and 19th Streets,  hopefully I will get my Fifth Miracle. Please spread the word and keep your fingers crossed for me!

In closing, thanks again to EVERYONE who cared about me and sent me $$$ and, just as important, love, prayers and good wishes. Even if we never meet in person, you have made all the difference to my life and, for the rest of my days, I will keep a little part of you in a corner of my heart.  Thank you CARA, Annie's Rescued Friends, Cocker Pals, Betsy's Cocker Place, Treena, Hedy, Joyce, Gretchen, Suzanne and all of you once again for giving me a chance for a new life.

Love Always,

Danny Boy
